A Lifesaving Resource For Women In The Unenviable Role Of Primary Long-term Caregiver

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Alameda, CA – Sixty-six percent of all caregivers in this country are women, a number that is increasing as the population ages. Many of these women are so caught up — even trapped — in this role they seriously neglect their own needs, which can lead to physical, emotional and financial burnout. In The Caregiving Wife’s Handbook: Caring for Your Seriously Ill Husband, Caring for Yourself (Hunter House Publishers) by Diana B. Denholm, PhD, women will find the support and tools they need to get through this stressful time with compassion while keeping themselves emotionally whole.

Since caring for an ill husband has traditionally been seen as a “wifely duty,” the caregiving role becomes especially complex when the husband is dying of a long-term illness. Every day brings a new set of challenges, demands, adjustments, and often unwelcome changes. It is a time when support and clear thinking are desperately needed — and this book can help!

As the primary caregiver for her husband for over ten years, Dr. Denholm learned firsthand how little help is available to women caring for dying husbands. Over time, she combined this experience with her training as a practicing therapist and communication expert to develop the tools and strategies she shares in this book.

Dr. Denholm’s twin goals are to help wives communicate with reluctant spouses about important issues and to take care of their own physical, emotional and practical wellbeing. She includes real-life examples from six case histories, stories that help readers discover they are not alone and that many of their emotional responses, including negative ones, are common and normal.

Receiving five-star reviews on Amazon.com, Dr. Denholm and her timely book were also recently featured in a lengthy article in the New York Times; drawing much-needed attention to a critical issue that affects millions of women yet is hardly ever discussed or explored in social discussion or in the media.

The Caregiving Wife’s Handbook addresses sensitive issues with insight and directness and offers clear-headed solutions. The helpful list of 50 Do’s and Don’ts and information on how to manage emotions, how to approach awkward subjects, and how to negotiate hot-button issues are practical and empower women to bring more balance, free time and even fun into their lives.

Diana Denholm, PhD, LMHC, holds a doctorate in psychology, is a board-certified medical psychotherapist, and has been in private practice for over thirty years. She has pioneered many of the communication and self-care tools she shares in this book and she has used these methods successfully with her many clients.

Changing The World – One Person At A Time

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Houston, TX – Three American women put their faith into action in a remote village in West Africa and proved that we can change our world for the better – one person at a time. Author and Episcopal Priest, Elizabeth Geitz, was one of these women who made the pilgrimage to an orphanage in Cameroon, West Africa, and in her latest book, I Am That Child: Changing Hearts & Changing the World (Morehouse), she shares with readers how it changed her own life forever.

Masterfully written, her incredible journey of faith is told with humor and passion as she relates the story of Sister Jane Mankaa, considered by many to be the Mother Teresa of Africa, and what this remarkable woman has managed to do for the 130 children in the orphanage who call her mother.

Always focusing on justice issues, the writings of Elizabeth Geitz speak to people with the passion to make a positive difference in the world. The author makes the political personal in this hard-to-put-down narrative about global poverty, AIDS, sexism and race relations, illustrating that cross-cultural relationships among people of faith can change our world…one person at a time. By taking an in-depth look at race and cultural privilege, the author finds hope for reconciliation back home.

I Am That Child would be a great tool for church study groups and social justice/outreach campaigns and includes study and resource guides to help readers engage global poverty efforts and build community – whether it be across the street or across continents.

The compelling frankness of I Am That Child goes right to the heart of any questions we might have and makes us want to put our faith into action – even if it means reaching beyond our wallets or outside of a comfortable lifestyle.

The Reverend Canon Elizabeth Geitz is an Episcopal priest, author of numerous books, and is co-editor of Women’s Uncommon Prayers. The former Canon for Ministry Development and Deployment in the Diocese of New Jersey, she is an award-winning writer and popular speaker who works closely with Sister Jane Mankaa and the Good Shepherd Home Board in Cameroon.

I Am That Child can be ordered through any religious or secular bookstore; through online booksellers or direct from Cokesbury Christian stores at www.Cokesbury.com, or by calling 1-800-672-1789. It is available in print and digital editions including Nook, Kindle and Google e-Book.

Elizabeth Geitz’s books have been hailed by people as diverse as Desmond Tutu, Phyllis Tickle, and John Berendt. For more information, please visit: www.elizabethgeitz.com

Prevention Rather Than Reaction Is Crucial In Keeping Our Home and Loved Ones Safe

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Roberts, WI – Home safety accidents disable more than twelve million people each year and are the fifth leading cause of death. Obviously there is a statistical gap between what we think we know and what we actually know about home safety. Since a staggering 45% of all unintentional deaths occur in and around the home, this makes the home environment one of the most hazardous settings we inhabit!

Dan Hannan, CSP, has been an educator and trainer on safety issues for more than twenty years. As an expert, he knows there are immediate things people can do to increase safety for themselves and their families, but how can we do this if we aren’t even aware there is a problem?

In his one-of-a-kind book, Preventing Home Accidents: A Quick & Easy Guide (Hunter House), Hannan identifies the hazards that exist in every home and recommends safety practices that will help homeowners reduce lethal accidents by providing information adapted from proven techniques used by safety professionals.

Prevention is the key and, with that in mind, Hannan’s book is filled with anecdotal descriptions and examples that offer way more than “safety tips” because it educates the homeowner in how to control risk through hazard identification. Topics include everything from fall hazards to electrical safety, fire prevention, safe chemical use, hand and power tool safety, and many others. Each chapter identifies problems and illustrates safety practices, providing action items for proactive prevention. There are “cheat sheets” at the end of each chapter to enable readers to be able to do a home safety audit themselves, giving references to links and other resources.

Since statistics show that 75% of all unintentional injuries and deaths in the home hinge on our behavior and on the decisions we make, it’s evident that the first and most important home safety decision we should make is to improve our hazard recognition skills and become more safety conscious.

Homeowners cannot rely on product recalls or state and federal agencies to gauge the safety of their home or their loved ones – they must do it themselves. With the simple techniques offered in this unique book, readers will be given the tools necessary to take charge of this important issue and hopefully prevent accidents from ever happening.

Dan Hannan, CSP, is an educator and trainer on safety issues, and an authorized OSHA instructor and Hazardous Material Manager who routinely trains construction and general industry workforces. He has been a safety, health and environmental professional for over twenty years and has written several articles for national trade publications.

Senator Stevenson’s Black Book: Lessons For The Future From A Rich Political Past

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Chicago, IL – The first Adlai E. Stevenson, Vice President of the U.S., collected stories, jokes and aphorisms in a loose-leaf binder throughout his long career. They were jotted on napkins, cards – anything at hand. If it was worth keeping, it went in the binder which became known as the black book. His son, Lewis Stevenson, Illinois Secretary of State, contributed little, but his son Adlai II, expanded the black book in his career as a lawyer, senior official in the Roosevelt and Truman administrations, Governor of Illinois, Presidential candidate and Ambassador to the UN.

Adlai E. Stevenson III inherited the black book, stuffed with its wit and wisdom, including contributions from friends and supporters around the world as word of the black book spread, and augmented it from his career as a Marine, lawyer, State Representative, State Treasurer, United States Senator, candidate for governor, international investment banker and ever the hereditary global sojourner and public policy activist. The black book was continuously organized and reorganized as a ready source of wit and wisdom for their speeches.

In Adlai Stevenson III’s The Black Book, he records American politics, culture and history as these men knew it. With roots in the gilded age and Illinois they are not unaware of the underside, but they also experienced and sometimes led great bursts of political energy and idealism. Since few, if any, American families have been as actively involved in public office and politics for as long as the Stevensons – beginning in the 1840’s when great great grandfather Jessie Fell was Abraham Lincoln’s sponsor – it is a unique history of lessons from the past covering finance and economics, law and justice, the media, politics, religion, education, war, and so much more. In order to see the future you must see the past, from The Black Book.

Rich in humor, The Black Book aims to help restore American values to American politics for generations largely cut off from a rich past and its lessons. While the lack of civility is a symptom of today’s money-driven politics of ideology, tactics, religiosity and ignorance, the author believes people today yearn for the politics and culture which created America and made it great. A reformer from day one, Stevenson sees an irony in that as our politics were reformed, usually in the name of more democracy, it became less so in respects and less accountable. It lost balance.

Despite the transformation of American politics, Stevenson believes there are courageous men and women prepared to lay down their political lives for their country, and he dedicates The Black Book to them with the hope they gain some “amusement, nourishment and strength from its bits of wisdom.”

Adlai E. Stevenson III has lectured widely, authored numerous articles and is the recipient of many honors, including Japan’s Order of the Sacred Treasure with Gold and Silver Star, and is an Honorary Professor of Renmin University in Beijing. He is Chairman of the Adlai Stevenson Center on Democracy which aims to bring practitioners from the world together to address systemic challenges to democratic systems. A graduate of Harvard College and Law School, he maintains an office in Chicago and a home with his wife, Nancy, on a farm near Galena, Illinois.

Allergy Season Lengthens But Relief Is As Close As Your Nose

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Allergy Season Lengthens But Relief Is As Close As Your Nose

Columbia, MO – With the rise in global temperatures, spring and its allergens are coming on stronger and earlier than ever. Dr. Hana R. Solomon is on a mission to show medical physicians, naturopathic doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists and consumers how to significantly reduce the impact of allergies without medications or complicated procedures. The key, she says, is keeping our personal filter clean. Her book, Clearing the Air One Nose at a Time, Caring For Your Personal Filter, is an owner’s manual for the nose, advocating daily nasal washing as a natural means of preventing many health problems. It can help anyone with allergies or nasal issues, including athletes, singers and parents, whose children sniff, sneeze and drip through the allergy season.

Dr. Hana suggests: “…Let’s talk about your nose. Let’s talk about your kids’ noses and your parents’ noses and your friends’ noses…In fact, let’s talk about everyone’s nose, because I know noses and what I know can help you. Why do I care so much about the nose? Why should you care? The nose has the power to change your entire consciousness and mood in a single second. The nose is our gatekeeper, our personal filter and our great defender!”

Dr. Hana R. Solomon (or Dr. Hana) is a board certified pediatrician and also the president of BeWell Health, LLC. She developed the patented nasal wash system, Dr. Hana’s Nasopure. Nasopure Nasal Wash System has helped hundreds of thousands of men, women and children maintain nasal and sinus health, naturally, and her system is easy enough for a two year-old to use.

The Nasopure system, created by a pediatrician using a mother’s wisdom, has been extolled by patients who use it on a daily basis because of the relief it brings. (We breathe 10,000 liters of air per day and we produce 1 pint to 1 quart of mucus per day; washing can remove 80% of allergens.) Users have fewer symptoms, a reduced need for medications, and they generally breathe a lot easier.

Dr. Hana has been a frequent guest on many television and radio programs. Her articles have been published on Medscape’s WebMD.com, About.com, Naturopathy Digest, and many other health-related publications, as well as magazines such as Good Housekeeping, Health, Woman’s World, Parents, LA Family, and The Wall Street Journal, to name just a few.

How To Avoid Dating All The Wrong Men While Looking For The Perfect Mate

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

How To Avoid Dating All The Wrong Men While Looking For The Perfect Mate

Kansas City, MO – Kathleen Kastner felt men tended to stereotype her in the “cheerleader” category throughout her life, due to her physical appearance. But her soul felt empty in these relationships; she wanted and needed more. It took a lifetime of looking – from third grade until she miraculously met her husband at the age of 39 – to find her true soul-mate.

In The Cheerleader Speaks: What God Taught Me About Men and Myself (Maya Yoga Publishing), Kathleen Kastner candidly shares the disasters of her dating history. Told in humorous, often hilarious, stories that are laced with tips to help readers change the patterns of how they date. Her insightful and inspiring messages encourage readers to look deep within themselves to reinforce that they are worthy of a healthy relationship.

“I encourage readers to pray for the partner that is right for them according to God’s will instead of their ego’s agenda for the perfect mate…wanting readers to be aware that their life mate may be very different than past partners, and to be open to new types of men; kind men, emotionally-available men, men without addictions, etc.”

Receiving five-star reviews on Amazon.com, The Cheerleader Speaks reveals the lessons Kastner felt God was trying repeatedly to teach her with each new dating experience on the most important love of all – self-love. Her book is intended to help single people look at dating differently and recognize the factors that come into play in how we date; understanding that childhood experiences not only affect our self-esteem but play a significant role in the partners we attract, and destructive dating patterns – dating the same type of man and expecting different results. In fact, she covers the gamut of negative dating habits that could be keeping us from meeting The One.

Kastner also shares the most valuable lesson she learned; making God the number one relationship in her life in order to feel fulfilled and strong from the inside out, instead of trying to fill the internal void with external substances and relationships. This is great advice for anyone, but especially for those growing up in our celebrity-driven, ‘instant gratification’ society.

Kathleen Kastner has been teaching yoga since 1996 and is the owner of Maya Yoga studio in Kansas City, MO, with her husband Wade Mortenson. She has a M.S in Exercise Physiology and a B.S in Journalism from the University of Kansas. Her celebrity clients have included Deepak Chopra, Molly Sims and Emily Deschanel. She has been published in Yoga Magazine three times, has a Teen Yoga DVD and an iPhone application with www.pretayoga.com
