True Tale Of Not-So-Ordinary Upbringing Will Inspire Others
To Live Life Courageously

Meet Michaela: She’s the girl next door, except that “next door” happens to be a rickety 27-foot Fifth-Wheel Trailer with no electricity or running water parked in the Sierra Nevada mountains. It all went south — or north, technically — in the summer of 1992 following an economic collapse that left her family on the brink of broke.

Teetering on Disaster from Michaela Renee Johnson is the often humorous, always brutally honest, true story of a family of five that must give up any reality they’ve ever known to carve out a new one they’ve never imagined. Caught in the middle is pre-teen Michaela, and for her, the timing couldn’t be worse. As she navigates her way through adolescence — shaving her legs for the first time in the frigid water of an irrigation ditch — she gains profound wisdom about her family, the world around her and her own ability to thrive in the face of life’s inconveniences.

But the effects of her unorthodox upbringing don’t end at adulthood, and Teetering takes readers along as a grown Michaela stumbles upon a few “Mr. Right Nows,” gets divorced in her twenties, and ends up right back where she started: a small mountain town in the middle of nowhere.

Teetering on Disaster is a candid, authentic tale that will make readers laugh out loud and cry — sometimes at the same time.

Award-winning author Michaela Renee Johnson is a licensed psychotherapist and small business owner who hosts the weekly podcast, Be You Find Happy, which features real conversations about life and happiness. She lives in Northern California with her husband and son. Her homestead includes fish, chickens, ducks, a Golden Retriever (Dennis), an Australian Shepherd (Walter) and a rescue cat named Stilly.

She enjoys traveling and has visited 19 countries; she loves the ocean and everything in it. She rarely finds herself without an activity, whether it be hiking, yoga, tinkering in the gar-den, golfing, reading or spending time outside. She loves poetic quotes and all things meta-physical. CAREGIVING Hope And Health For Caregiving Families

After a life-threatening accident stopped her completely in her tracks a few years ago, author Sharon Wegscheider-Cruse and her family came to truly understand that we are all one event from a lifestyle change.

Former First Lady Rosalyn Carter clearly illustrated the importance of this when she said: “There are only four kinds of people in this world: those who have been caregivers; those who currently are caregivers; those who will be caregivers; and those who will need caregivers.” Hence, the new book by Cruse with Patrick Egan has arrived, Caregiving: Hope and Health for Caregiving Families (ISBN: 9780757321931 – May 2019 — $14.95). While some people choose to take care of loved ones after they can no longer take care of themselves, many others must do so for a myriad of other reasons, often financial. It can be a crisis situation, such as an accident, or the long-term effects of aging. In any case, the days are often long and draining—both for the family care-giver and the paid professional—and the choices to be made are often confusing, difficult, and daunting.

Filled with practical, easily implementable advice, this illuminating book helps readers sort through the puzzle that forms the caregiving world. Topics include: identifying the roles of caregivers; dealing with burnout; finding ways to compartmentalize and separate without guilt; using technology to make life easier; building bridges through teamwork; downsizing; and navigating end-of-life issues. The first book to provide stories from the perspective of both caregiver and caree, it enables caregivers to better understand their fears and feelings. The result is a positive, unified approach to care.

About the Authors:

Sharon Wegscheider-Cruse is the founding Chairperson of the National Association of Children of Alcoholics, and founder of Onsite Workshops. She has written 19 books translated into 13 languages, and broke ground and fostered a movement with her works, Another Chance: Hope and Health for the Alcoholic Family and Learning to Love Yourself. Sharon has traveled the world and developed programs in the United States, Europe, Australia, and Canada, and has appeared on The Phil Donahue Show, The Oprah Winfrey Show and The Larry King Show, as well as in multiple media events.

Patrick Egan is a caregiving “gentrepreneur” and the caregiver for his parents who live in a senior community nearby. He is the founder of NurturingNet, a company that helps others use technology in a way that enhances and adds fun to the caregiver experience. A former VP of Human Resources for the Global HealthCare Exchange that was created by industry-leading health care firms including Medtronic, GE, Johnson and Johnson, Abbott and Baxter International. He holds a BA in Communications from the University of Colorado and an MBA in Management from the College of St. Thomas.

Doctor Emerges From Losing Wife To Dementia To Share Compelling Story

Those who have emerged from the experience of caring for and losing a spouse or parent to dementia understand well how difficult the journey is. But for those whose loved one has just been diagnosed, Dr. Donald Hricik’s Lynne’s Last Christmas: A Battle With Dementia may be a helpful companion to have for the difficult journey ahead.

Lynne Hricik was diagnosed with the disease at age 64, and shortly after her death, Dr. Hricik penned Lynne’s Last Christmas within a few weeks as both a way of dealing with his and his family’s grief and to provide information about the disease and about caring for someone with dementia.

“I truly hope this book will provide some comfort to the many others who are caring for someone with this awful thing called dementia. You are not alone,” says Dr. Hricik.

In Lynne’s Last Christmas, Dr. Hricik recalls the last four years of his wife’s life during which she suffered memory loss and frequent falls. He also discusses the impact of her illness upon his children and close friends, and actually debated whether to have his children read the manuscript before it was published. All agreed that they should. “They cried when they read the final draft, but in sharing their thoughts, it brought back memories—both the good times and the bad times—we’d had during Lynne’s life,” he said.

The author also goes into detail about the condition itself. Dementia, he explains, isn’t a specific disease but rather a term that captures the group of symptoms associated with a decline in memory or other thinking skills. Though sometimes confused with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia is the overall group of which Alzheimer’s makes up 60-80 percent of cases.

Dr. Hricik is currently Alzheimer’s disease at Case Western Reserve University and served as the Chief of Nephrology and Hypertension at University Hospital’s Cleveland Medical Center from 1993 to 2017. His research interests have focused on complications of immunosuppression and immune monitoring of kidney transplant recipients. He has published more than 180 articles and books, and 35 book chapters.

Royalties from the book are being donated to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America and to the University Hospitals of Cleveland Hospice Service.

Ultra-Marathoner Inspires Others With Story Of Recovery And Resilience

David Clark has achieved unimaginable success in the ul-tramarathon world, having run more than 100 races, including the Leadville 100-Mile Trail Run and the Hardrock 100. It’s hard to imagine that 13 years ago, this elite athlete weighed more than 320 pounds and struggled with addictions to alcohol and prescription drugs. His story is one of a remarkable transformation — physically, mentally and spiritually.

From barely finishing his first 5k to running 100 miles in less than 18 hours, Clark shatters the notion that the front of the pack is a birthright in his raw, inspirational new release, Broken Open: Mountains, Demons, Treadmills and A Search for Nirvana.

Between the covers of Broken Open, Clark shares his stories of taking running to the ex-treme edges of his physical and spiritual breaking points. Among his many remarkable adven-tures, Clark talks about doing 10 epic events in one year to celebrate his 10th year of sobriety. This mind-bending year of running included completing the Boston Marathon four times in one day, running 343 laps around a high school track and running 48 hours on a treadmill. Readers will feel like they are running alongside him as he navigates his vision quest — all the while hallucinating and breaking from reality in one of the most epic Badwater 135 race experiences ever told.

Clark’s story is unfiltered, honest and pure adrenaline-laden inspiration as he shares his unique brand of Americana and Heavy Metal Buddhism. Broken Open has far more to offer than just miles travelled and mountains climbed. It’s about trying to find a way station of bal-ance between worlds of extremes. It’s about running to create a legacy and develop inner strength. After reading Broken Open, readers will never doubt how strong they can be, how much they can endure, or whether or not they are capable of finding true happiness.

David Clark lives just outside of Boulder, CO., where he is a father of three, an accomplished endurance athlete, a practicing Buddhist and a die-hard New York Rangers fan. He is also the author of the bestselling book Out There: A Story of Ultra Recovery and the host of the WeAreSuperman podcast.

Clark has been featured on CBS, ABC, ESPN, Runners World, Men’s Health and many other national media outlets. He has been sober since 2005 and addresses audiences on a range of topics, including how to become an unstoppable force of happiness; how to move past trauma, grief and loss; why politics is America’s newest addiction; how what we eat fits into our ability to be happy; weight loss; addiction; and American Libertarian Buddhism.

Learn How To Stop The Interaction Of Elements That Produce Cancer

Hampton, VA. No one wants to hear from their doctor that they have cancer, and only six months to live. But these are the words that Dr. Carl O. Helvie heard 44 years ago. While his doctor encouraged him to begin traditional treatment right away, Helvie knew there had to be another way to treat his cancer without the negative side effects of radiation and chemotherapy, or the invasiveness of surgery. After a lot of praying and a good amount of soul-searching, he opted to look for an alternative way to beat his cancer.

Today, Dr. Helvie is the longest-living lung cancer survivor in the world and he credits this with his decision to take a holistic approach in his treatment. His treatment proved so successful, Dr. Helvie used it to develop a simple plan that he shares in his new book, Reducing Your Cancer Risk: A Holistic Approach (Booklocker Inc.). It’s not complicated—it’s not rocket science—but it is based on years of proven research. The book explores the environment that brings cancer and the human body together, and offers steps to take before these three elements interact to cause the disease.

Listed in ‘50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading in 2014,’ Helvie recommends anyone receiving a cancer diagnosis to take the time to really think about what they want to do for their treatment plan. Adding, “People shouldn’t jump into chemotherapy or surgery if they don’t have all of the information and have a chance to think about it.”

In 2014, Dr. Helvie founded the Carl O. Helvie Holistic Cancer Foundation—a foundation different from other cancer foundations in that they focus on the holistic approach and multiple aspects of education, research and patient care for many types of cancer. For each area of content in the book there is a review of current research studies, and steps we can take to avoid carcinogens and strengthen the body. Also included are interviews with over 40 national leaders, discussing vastly different areas ranging from GMOs and EMTs to gratitude and forgiveness. There is also a how-to section that covers everything from meditation, gratitude and faith, to minor changes in diet, drinking water and reducing stress.

A prolific author, Helvie has written 10 books, more than 55 articles, and has presented 57 research papers throughout the US and Europe. In retirement, he focuses his research on natural interventions for health issues, which led him to develop a nursing theory that has helped him establish a nursing center and improve primary care for homeless and low-income families. Since retiring, he has written two more books and served as the host of a holistic health radio show. In 1999, he was presented the Distinguished Career Award in Public Health from the American Public Health Association. He has been interviewed on more than 150 radio and television shows about his two most recent books.

Testimonial for Ascot Media Group from author, Howard Shifke

I was referred to Trish Stevens for marketing my first book, Fighting Parkinson’s…and Winning. Trish immediately was responsive to my needs. Within a few days of getting started with Ascot Media Group, my first press release went out. It was a professionally drafted press release that expressed the core of my book. I received 14 media leads the first day, including requests for radio interviews and people who wanted to read my book for review.

Throughout the media campaign, I received over 50 media leads, had many radio interviews, and have received professional reviews of my book. Some of the media outlet leads have included ABC radio, a couple of world-wide radio stations, and journal editors from publications at a few large universities.

Trish and Ascot Media Group exceeded my exceptions by delivering very solid results on my PR campaign. Ascot Media Group has my highest recommendation. They know their business well, are easy to work with, and they are extremely responsive to their clients.

Testimonial for Ascot Media Group from author, Carl Helvie

I used the services of Ascot Media New in 2013 and it was so successful marketing my book on lung cancer that I decided to use them again (2018) for my recent cancer prevention book. I started this recent service less than two months ago and have averaged more than one query a day and have some large opportunities scheduled. One program on cancer in California will be broadcast to 18 states and 37% of the population. Trish, Kimberly, Lin and others are wonderful to work with and always ready to help in any way they can. For me, this is the only way to successfully market a book.
