Hump Pilot – Paying Homage to the Little Known Heroes of WWII

Vienna VA – The Hump, as the WWII airlift over the Himalayas was called, was a peril-fraught yet vital mission for which many pilots lost their lives. In Hump Pilot (The History Publishing Company), Nedda R. Thomas gives an authentic first-hand account of a brave man’s war story, and provides a piece of history not often portrayed in books.

“My father was a modest man and rarely spoke of his wartime service,” says the author. “When I persuaded him to share his experiences, I was able to see a different dimension of him, not as a father but as an American hero.”

Hump pilots suffered horrifying mortality rates, and though little remembered today, their sacrifices still speak volumes. Thomas adds, “Their mission over the tallest mountains on earth is largely forgotten even by military readers. Yet the Hump is the missing link to the entire pursuit of World War II in Asia. These pilots were critical to Nationalist China and to every Allied ground and flying unit there, and they put their lives on the line with every takeoff.”

In a well-researched, well-paced, compelling account, Ned Thomas’ character emerges – that of a true gentleman. As a young pilot he had dashing good looks, good humor, and a humbling quality. His story is one of courage and fortitude. Along with other men in the Hump, his mission saved lives and honored his country. Through his daughter’s writing, readers climb on-board a historical roller coaster, as a piece of nearly-lost history comes back to life.

About the author
Nedda Thomas has published numerous articles about creative and significant figures. She also writes poetry, and has worked as a magazine editor. Growing up in a
military/diplomatic family, she lived in the U.S., France, and the Far East. She holds a master’s degree in human development, and attended seminary. Family memories help nurture her passion for history; she speaks French and English, and lectures on several different topics.

The Continuing Struggle For Justice And Peace: Perspectives Of A Street Cop Who Knows There’s No Place For Race

Shreveport. LA – “Black Lives Matter.” “No Justice, No Peace.” “Racism is Tyranny.” “I Can’t Breathe.” Slogans are everywhere, yet it’s a problem too complex to be condensed down to a few words. Veteran homicide detective Rodney Demery draws from a lifetime of experience to delve deeper than race for answers, and his voice rings true.

On an autopsy table, we all look the same. Not black. Not white. Just human. And we all bleed red. With these blunt words, Demery launches a persuasive argument for rejecting race and racial tensions as the root of our crumbling criminal justice system. In his book No Place For Race, (The Demery Group LLC), Demery boldly asserts that worn-out sociopolitical theories generate more divisiveness than anything else; the interjection of racism camouflages what’s really going on. Black police administrators and policy makers may be more responsible for racial profiling than racists, he believes.

After having worked as an investigator for homicides, narcotics, burglaries, armed robberies and sex crimes, Demery has suggestions with the potential to move our communities far beyond academic theories. “I want to start a conversation that moves us away from the same old political and social divisions,” he says. “The book comes from the frustration I feel walking under yellow tape and stepping over pooled blood at yet another crime scene.” Too often, Demery has told mothers their children have been murdered and could only watch helplessly as they sobbed.

A decorated veteran of the United States Navy, Detective Rodney Demery has served the public as an officer of the peace for 25 years. Demery, who served in both Operation Desert Storm and Operation Desert Shield, attended Louisiana State University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice. Throughout his career as a police officer, he has worked in three states.

Rodney Demery is African American. He is also the author of Things My Daughters Need to Know: A Cop and Father’s View of Sex, Relationships and Happiness. Part advice column, part memoir, it reached Amazon’s Kindle Best Seller List in July 2011.

Bestseller Ellis the Elephant Delights Kids and Adults in Callista Gingrich’s From Sea To Shining Sea

Callista Gingrich announces the release of From Sea to Shining Sea (Regnery Kids), the fourth volume in her New York Times bestselling Ellis the Elephant series.

A patriotic American history introduction for young children, From Sea to Shining Sea follows an adorable elephant named Ellis in exploring the early years of the United States and the epic journey west into uncharted territory with Lewis and Clark. Charming rhymes and beautiful illustrations make the 50th reading as fun as the first, for children as well as adults!

In earlier books, Sweet Land of Liberty, Land of the Pilgrims’ Pride, and Yankee Doodle Dandy, Ellis, the time-traveling pachyderm, learns about pivotal moments that shaped America. Authored by Callista Gingrich and illustrated by Susan Arciero, From Sea to Shining Sea will delight those who want to know how brave Americans forged a growing nation and spread freedom from coast to coast.

Callista Gingrich is the president of Gingrich Productions. She and her husband, Newt─ a former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives─host and produce historical and public policy documentaries. Recent films include A City Upon A Hill, America at Risk, and Nine Days that Changed the World.

Mrs. Gingrich is also the co-author of Ronald Reagan: Rendezvous with Destiny. Her photography is featured in the New York Times bestseller Rediscovering God in America. An avid musician, she sings in the Choir of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. and plays French horn with the City of Fairfax Band in Fairfax, Virginia. She resides in McLean, Virginia with her husband, Newt Gingrich.

If You Give A Donkey the White House: Political Satire for the Soul

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

If You Give A Donkey the White House: Political Satire for the Soul

Political satire can be traced back throughout history. Wherever there has been organized government it’s been a source of entertainment for people needing to vent their frustration with elected officials. Fast forward to the 21st century and not much has changed; in fact, political satire outlets have risen in popularity in recent years. David E. Levine’s colorfully illustrated new book, If You Give a Donkey the White House (Dog Ear Publishing), will have right-leaning readers in hysterics from beginning to end!

If You Give a Donkey the White House, modeled after Laura Numeroff’s vastly popular children’s series If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, is riddled with wit and loaded with sarcasm. Levine’s book blends political humor into a meaningful story with a clear and indisputable message: “People need to be careful where they put their trust because even one well-intentioned act can create a chain of events that leads to disastrous results!”

The story begins with a boy and his dog opening the gates of the White House to let in an arrogant donkey, believing it’s a good idea. “Unfortunately, once the donkey gets in,” says Levine, “he’ll want to expand the government and in no time at all, the boy gets taken on a misguided adventure that ruins his life.”

If you Give a Donkey the White House is a witty and engaging parody that “makes fun of those who think government is the solution to every problem and illustrates the potential for dire consequences when we put our hope and trust in those who seek to increase the role of government in our lives,” says Levine. Using colorful illustrations, the author shows how the initial action by a child dealing with an animal leads to a direct unforeseen end result, which then leads to another unforeseen outcome, and so on until it makes full circle and the title character finds himself right back in the same place he started!

What makes bashing bureaucracy so popular? If we went back to the oldest example of political satire around 400 BC and asked Aristophanes, there’s a very good chance that his answer would be the same today: It’s entertaining, and it’s a satisfying outlet that provides a good chuckle at the expense of government blunders.

David Levine lives with his wife and four children in New Jersey, where he finds ample opportunity to make fun of donkeys.

TIP SHEET

Excerpt of Amazon 5-star review: “If you Give a Donkey the White House is absolutely hysterical and had me laughing out loud from start to finish. This wry parody presented in the form of a children’s storybook is a savagely funny political satire and critique on the current state of affairs in Washington. This is a brilliant idea executed with finesse by the author…and is accompanied by uproarious illustrations. If you suffer from acute Obama fatigue, this may not cure you, but it will certainly make you feel much better…a great gift that will be greatly appreciated by politically inclined friends looking for some comedic relief in these troubled times.”
