Angel Faces® : Unforgettable Stories And Beautiful Smiles

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

San Diego, CA – For young accident victims with facial burns, the pain never really stops. The stares, name-calling, teasing and cruelty of their peers create a sort of living hell for this special group of survivors. Lesia Cartelli knows this is true, because she lived through it herself. Her desire to heal from a serious burn injury over 50% of her face and body at the age of nine in a natural gas explosion encouraged her to create Angel Faces for girls who suffer similar disfiguring burns and other traumatic injuries. This year, the retreat is at Glen Ivy Resort in Corona, California on June 23-29, 2013.

During the week-long, intensive retreat, survivors hear first-hand from Cartelli about her injuries and the long road to recovery. The young women work closely with experts and meet others with similar struggles.  They learn to use new tools that will help them become more confident and able to embrace what the world hands them. Most important of all, they are empowered and given hope that they can create the life they desire.

“The retreat is only one small component,” Cartelli explains. “We see the fruits of our labor when the girls go back home. We receive several calls and emails from the parents and medical centers about how confident and content their daughter/patient is since she has returned — she joined a sports or academic team at school or now is going to prom, or interviewing for a first job, ending their social death.”

This year the girls are coming from Los Angeles, San Diego, Orlando, Tampa, Chicago, Atlanta, Nashville, Indianapolis, Portland, West Virginia, and even England.

Angel Faces® is a national nonprofit organization, headquartered in Encinitas, California, whose mission is to provide healing retreats and ongoing support for adolescent girls and young women with burn/trauma injuries to achieve their optimum potential and develop meaningful relationships for themselves, their families, and their communities.

The unique retreats and aftercare programs focus on the healing process within a holistic framework of mind, heart, and spirit. In addition to art therapy and private, corrective-cosmetic sessions, the program provides licensed therapists to help the girls through their loss and trauma issues, and provides the girls with strategies to handle staring and teasing. The goal of Angel Faces® is to offer a physical, spiritual, and emotional transformation so each girl walks away with a new confidence and a hopeful outlook toward the future with the skills to be excited about their life.

A Doctor’s Near-Death Experience Can Help Anyone Find A Second Chance At Life

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Boca Raton, FL – Dr. Emile Allen thought he had a near perfect life; he was an accomplished surgeon specializing in urologic oncology, with three successful practices and a wonderful life in Boca Raton, FL. That is, until the day he was operating to save a woman’s life and an accident nearly killed him.

Eaten by the Tiger: Surrendering to an Empowered Life (Inspire on Purpose Publishing) by Emile Allen, M.D., is the true story of what happened the day this brilliant surgeon was nearly electrocuted and the voice he heard while on the other side of his near-death experience. It clearly said, “I’m not ready for you yet. You have more work to do.” He had no way of knowing the long road back to physical and emotional recovery that was ahead. Years of pain, despair, and ultimately triumph awaited him on his transformative journey of self-discovery.

There were times Dr. Allen wanted to give up; he had gone from performing intricate surgical procedures to struggling with reading a book or just counting change. The accident not only changed his career and ability, it changed who he was. He had yet to realize the full significance of this incident and the impact it would have on the rest of his life.

He heard the voice again while undergoing extensive therapy for pain and infections during his recovery: “I’m not ready for you yet. You have more work to do.” But with all he cherished in life collapsing around him, what could the message mean? What could he contribute?  It was only after a clinical psychologist helped him identify his struggles as challenges rather than problems, he went from being a victim of his circumstances to being the victor of his life.

Years later, in 2007, working as a medical consultant and still struggling with his loss he decided to attend a 10-day spiritual retreat in Fiji. One afternoon as he meditated, he again heard the voice only this time something else happened; he saw his own body sitting on the ground while his spirit was floating above the room. What felt like a few minutes was, in reality, more than an hour and afterwards he experienced heightened sensory perceptions of the world around him. Explaining to the Dasaji that he felt the peace of another world, the spiritual leader explained why he had earlier told Emile, “You have to let the tiger eat you in order for you to live.”

“Emile, you have been in fear of the tiger for so many years. You climbed a tree to get away from the tiger, but you grabbed a branch and would not let go . . . today you finally let go of the branch and had faith that God would catch you,” he said.

Dr. Allen is a graduate of Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago. He completed his general surgery internship and urology residency at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. He is the former Chairman of Urology and Vice Chairman of Surgery at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, CA.

Eaten By The Tiger is a compelling collection of stories and insights acquired through personal experiences as surgeon, patient and son that can help anyone conquer their fear of the unknown and bring clarity to their life. As a highly respected inspirational speaker and author, Dr. Allen is sharing with the world a gift: a second chance at life – and touching more lives than he ever could have as a surgeon. Sareena Dominguez: Opening Her Musical Universe To The World

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Gilbert, AZ – Watching Sareena Dominguez delving into her talent is a dizzying experience. Previously signed to River Jones Music Label, the name is familiar to music fans in Arizona. Her voice has velvety depths and sweet, sometimes jazzy riffs as she performs original material, with an exotic and captivating stage presence. Dominguez is a prolific composer.

Growing up, her family had widely diverse tastes in music, from Michael Jackson to Marvin Gaye and everything in between. “With all those different types of music floating around the house, I have a hard time picking my favorite genre,” she says. “I love listening to Jack White and then jumping into John Mayer and then out of nowhere busting out some Frank Sinatra or Judy Garland. Changing genres up is just exciting. I’m this 80’s pop, old school soul music, Rat Pack-loving monster who always wants to write.”

Dominguez picked up a guitar in the seventh grade. “All the boys I was friends with were doing it. And I started to realize I had been surrounded by wonderful music all my life. It’s funny how that happens when you learn how to play an instrument. It’s like you are instantly a part of this musical universe that can only be unlocked when you bring a song to life.”

Her first album, “Moonbeams,” is a compilation of high school love songs. With a sophisticated style and poise uncommon for her age, she is now represented by KALM Talent Group.

“The experience of having people reach out and connect with my music has been unreal,” she says. “I am just this dormant volcano waiting to explode with an album of new music. I’ve morphed into this sassy, funky, jazzy, romantic, poppy, music playing girl,” she concludes with a laugh.
