Would You Publish A Story You Found? What If The Writer Returns, Or What If He Never Existed?

Las Vegas, NV – J.E. Rainey never knew Arthur Spevak, but it was Spevak’s manuscript that Rainey discovered in a trunk overgrown with blackberries behind his house. Believing himself to be the fortunate messenger for a man so unique, Rainey felt it an obligation to present Honor and Entropy (and calling it Lost Lobo Books) to the world.

Honor and Entropy is an epic adventure about the intertwining lives of two young men: one, Telly Brensen, a classic hero; the other, Arthur Spevak, an uproarious anti-hero, dragged into a quest so consuming it takes over his life.

Telly Brensen longs for his father, missing since WWII, and despises his mother’s suitors. When her priceless ring disappears, this ignites his long smoldering rage. He hunts down the ring, maiming the thug who has it, and even though this frees a man wrongfully imprisoned for taking it, he is prosecuted into choosing between the Marines or jail. His choice lands him in Vietnam where he carries out an act of extraordinary valor. Unfortunately, a gunfight with a jealous NCO turns a Medal of Honor nomination into a dishonorable discharge. Four years later, with reasons to live fading fast, Telly gets a tip concerning his father. He tracks down old friend Arthur Spevak, solicits him for backup, and sets off alone…for Borneo.

Unknown to Telly, Spevak is a tormented soul in his own right. Once orphaned, a sense of worthlessness sabotages his every attempt at romance and, in desperation, he too joins the Marines. But when sent to Vietnam, his anger at the world for driving him to such measures will not abate and he becomes a notorious rogue – until the death of a brave friend sends him home with new self-loathing. By the time Telly finds him, he is living on a Chinese mountainside; alone, aimless and broke. Since they never crossed paths in the war each is ignorant of the other’s disgrace, and they make an awkward pact. Then Telly vanishes, and Spevak reluctantly picks up the trail – unaware of how far the journey will one day take him.

Rainey hopes that readers will be moved by the same sense of wonder he was when uncovering this lost tale. He says he likes to think that Spevak will one day reappear and reintroduce himself. But what do we know of Rainey, other than he is a man who says he found the manuscript? What part does he really play in all of this? He says he believed the story to be an authentic memoir, but is now unsure, and that Spevak may have made the whole thing up. Does Spevak even exist? It is ultimately up to the reader to decide.

Clayton Clifford Bye, Book Reviews: “…There really is a terrific, well thought-out, and expertly told mystery here. And some of it runs through the many sub-plots and the characters who people them…Arthur Spevak’s Honor & Entropy, with the exception of some Ayn Rand moments…has been the most enjoyable…in a very long time. Arthur Spevak claims he is not an author. This just isn’t so. I get the feeling his characters and settings are real to him. And so these things become real to me. That, dear reader, is the job description of an author.”

David Thirtyacre: “It’s about time. The first novel which effectively paints the picture of life’s struggle; that between what’s right, what we choose to do, and the unpredictable outcome. The hero’s epic journey, bouncing between hero and zero, effectively illustrates the strange web we weave called life. But what about the other side, those who always look for the way out? Honor and Entropy charges head long into the battle of life, the choices, and never-ending mosaic it creates.”

Norman D. Park: “Honor & Entropy is an adventure woven through with layers of myth, allusion, historical fact, philosophy, and humor – and all of that stretched across a canvas of first and third person writing that never lets up. The characters are unforgettable, and the sub-plots keep the pot boiling. I can’t remember when I’ve enjoyed a story quite so much. Like a great meal, it’s one of those things the mind keeps savoring.”

This Dynamic ‘Green Team’ Recycles imaginations while Redefining The Meaning Of High Octane Entertainment

Fort Worth, TX. Vocal Trash is a unique troupe of environmental performers who have been engaging audiences nationwide with their exciting brand of entertainment. They have made guest appearances on Fox 21 in Colorado, on Good Morning Texas, and been featured in various newspaper articles.

2011 marks the tenth anniversary of this exciting, energetic group whose music is a mixture of pop, rock, swing and classic oldies that relates to all ages and crosses many cultural barriers. During this ten year period they have not only brought top rate, upbeat entertainment to audiences, but have used their music to make a positive influence on children by bringing awareness to our planet – quite a legacy to leave for future generations.

Their combination of traditional instruments together with a percussion section made of trash cans, metal objects, water bottles and other recycled items, makes a uniquely exciting presentation that teaches children to use their imagination in a meaningful and lasting way when it comes to recycling. By incorporating items that would normally end up in a landfill into their performance, they have created a powerful tool to reach young minds and made it fun!

Their energetic, high octane show is a hit at every venue – whether it’s Vegas, Madison Square Garden, State Fairs or corporate events. In demand nationwide, Vocal Trash plays to a full house at every performance. Audiences love their unique blend of first class singing, industrial style drumming, comedy antics, and award-winning break-dancing – described as “Glee with a kick!”   “It’s an energy thing,” says creator Steve Linder. This may just well be an understatement. Unlike many shows, it is the entire troupe that makes this seamless ensemble performance such a thrilling and enlightening experience. Their whole performance is an astounding display of excellence, synchronization, excitement, precision and musicianship. When it comes to diversity Vocal Trash is, without a doubt, the ultimate variety show woven in urban tapestry.  This talented team has been incorporating recycling into every show for years – long before “green” was cool. Part street performers, part recycling gurus, these entertaining personalities make upcycling and recycling fun for kids of all ages – and makes them one of the most positive role models in entertainment today. While not yet a household name, judging from their fan base it won’t take this Broadway-style stage show long to become one. Their show travels coast to coast, appearing at some of the country’s largest theaters, festivals and state fairs, and during their “off-season” they perform for major corporations like American Airlines.   You might ask, “What does recycling have to do with a high energy variety show?” It starts with seven dedicated musicians, extensively trained in the performing arts, who like to get their point across by playing car parts, trash cans, lids, water bottles, barrels, pots, buckets and brooms. Their ‘point,’ featured in their song lyrics and their one-of-a-kind instruments constructed from recycled materials, is that this ‘green team’ is out to save the planet!  Please read the amazing testimonials from clients, and check out this dynamic group on their website at: www.vocaltrash.net.  ###

How To End Negative Self-Talk And Take Life To A Whole New Level

New York/Pennsylvania. – Meet the dynamic duo! Politics might make for strange bedfellows, but the literary world is also capable of pairing some unusual bunkmates to produce powerful results. Noted author, and rabbinical leader Dr. Abraham Twerski, an Orthodox Jew; and, Tom Gagliano, whose roots are Italian Catholic and who is a high profile leader and successful entrepreneur in the field of addiction and self-help therapy, have joined forces to create this book, “The Problem was Me”(Gentle Path Press). Tom Gagliano and Abraham Twerksi inspire readers to silence their inner voice of self-doubt and fear and begin living proactive, satisfying lives.

Tom Gagliano has developed unique methods and procedures that have been embraced by doctors, institutions and patients to help individuals deal with their childhood wounds. Besides his valuable psychological insight from his life experiences, Tom holds a Master’s degree in social work from Rutgers University.

Besides helping those with destructive behaviors, this book will also bring an understanding to many of us with loved ones who act in ways where they sabotage their own happiness when it comes their way. Also this book will provide some with a blueprint, a blueprint to give our children the healthy messages that may have been denied to many of us.

TIP SHEET:

Publishers Weekly Review: “Gagliano …presents a method of stopping the negative thoughts and self-destructive behaviors that might appeal to sufferers of substance abuse and poor impulse control…Gagliano calls his negative voice ‘the warden’ and shares how it impacted his adult life. He presents the idea, backed by a quote from Twerski, that these voices stem from negative messages received during childhood…and illustrates his theories with traumatic childhood anecdotes, some from people identified as his clients. The section on how to conduct a written inventory gives readers a tangible tool to move toward recovery. The book provides a hopeful message on how parents can help their children avoid these pitfalls and how readers can include forgiveness and a spiritual power in their lives.”

Counselor Magazine: “…This book is certainly very suitable for those who are battling addictions since, as the author points out, ‘some addicts who have been sober for a long time may continue to lead tormented, angry lives.’ …However, it should not be written off as a book simply for those who are suffering addiction as it has a much broader application …and could be helpful to anyone who wants to break the cycle of self-defeating thoughts and self-destructive behaviors.”

Crime Never Takes A Vacation – One Expert Shares Secrets That Intruders Don’t Want You To Know

Nashville, TN. — Our lagging economy has spurned a dramatic increase in burglaries and home invasions across the country, with agencies reporting an increase in 2010 after falling for a number of years. What is especially troubling is that these crimes have increased in the suburbs and small towns – places where it rarely happened before.

“The numbers reflect what we have been hearing from listeners all over the country. The bad economy has caused an increase in crime and it is happening everywhere”, says home security expert, Alan Young. Over the past three months, Young has conducted nearly 100 radio interviews, giving listeners tips on how not to become victims of a growing burglary and home invasion epidemic. Young is CEO of Armor Concepts LLC and has been featured on the CBS Early Show, The Today Show, and The Discovery Channel, as well as numerous local news segments.

Young’s common sense approach to home security, which focuses on economical ways to keep from becoming a victim, has suddenly made him a very popular guest for radio show hosts. “It was really interesting to hear his common sense approach to security. I know that it made me think, especially the part about alarm systems… “ said Georgianne Kiricoples, host of the “Breaking Through” radio show.

According to Young, there are three keys to making sure that your home is secure. The first is simple, “Use some common sense. Don’t post vacation plans on Facebook and don’t post vacation photos while still on vacation. Many burglaries are committed by someone you know or by someone connected to someone you know. Letting the world know that you’re not home is an easy way to become a target.”

The second key is to make your home a less attractive target than your neighbor’s home. Sounds crazy, but according to Young, “If you and your neighbor are being chased by a dog, you don’t need to be faster than the dog, just your neighbor. Make your home a less attractive target and thieves will go somewhere else – unless you have something that they really want.”  Steps to making your home less attractive to burglars include cutting shrubs and properly lighting the inside and outside of your home.

The third key is to secure the exterior of your home. “Most people think about home alarm systems as home security. An alarm simply tells you that someone is inside your house and police response times are often greater than 20 minutes. A home alarm is the equivalent of having OnStar in your car. Would you not buckle your seat belt because OnStar will call the police after you have an accident? Alarms are a good addition to your home’s security but 85% of all break-ins are through a door. Secure your doors and you greatly increase your likelihood of success against a burglar.”

For door security, Young recommends EZ Armor, a $69.00 kit that reinforces the jamb, locks and hinges on an exterior entry door. The kit can be installed in about 30 minutes by a do-it-yourselfer and is guaranteed to help prevent kick-ins. EZ Armor can be purchased at Lowe’s, many ACE Hardware stores and online at www.armorconcepts.com.  He also recommends upgrading your deadbolt to an ANSI certified Grade 1 lock. There are several models, including one from Schlage, which can be purchased for under $30.00 at many hardware stores.

“Security does not need to cost a lot, it just needs to work. Anyone that tells you otherwise is taking you for a ride. With a little common sense and a little effort you can effectively secure your home,” concluded Young. Many other home security tips, along with recommendations for what to do after a burglary, can be found at www.armorconcepts.com.

Young was featured on Nashville news last year when a couple in Murfreesboro, TN were victims of burglary and then avoided a repeat offense by taking Young’s advice. After being robbed, the couple installed EZ Armor as kick-in prevention on their door. When the same burglar came back weeks later and tried to kick in the same door, he made so much noise that the neighbors called the police and he was apprehended.

Alan S. Young is CEO of Armor Concepts LLC.  Mr. Young and Armor Concepts have been featured on The CBS Early Show, The Today Show, The Discovery Channel show “It Takes a Thief” and numerous local news segments.  Armor Concepts’ Door Jamb Armor, EZ Armor and FIX-A-JAMB products are sold nationally through Lowe’s, ACE Hardware, Do-It-Best and on their web site at www.armorconcepts.com

The First Book Of Its Kind On One Of The Greatest Sources Of Religious Inspiration Of All Time

Torrance, CA. – A Buddha is one who has attained the highest level of enlightenment in the Cosmos and Buddhism teaches that the Cosmos contains innumerable worlds similar to ours, with countless number of Buddhas. Buddhism also teaches that there are fifty-two levels of enlightenment, the highest of which is called the “enlightenment of a Buddha.”

The Story Of Buddha: A Graphic Biography (Ichimannendo Publishing) by Hisashi Ota is believed to be the first book on the life story of Buddha and his teachings in Manga – a revered practice by the Japanese of using comics for explanation and illustration,.

When the Buddha was a young man he was called Siddhartha and he dealt with similar struggles that we have today. He was born as a crown prince and was blessed by having an extremely beautiful wife. He had it all – money, fame, position, wealth – there was nothing he needed yet even with all of his possessions he was not totally happy. He felt there was something missing in his life and he wondered how there could be meaning in the same routine day after day. That is when he went in search of happiness…and a search for answers to the age-old question, “what is the meaning of life?” began. Little did this dissatisfied prince from the foothills of the Himalayas know that 2,600 years later he would be considered one of the world’s greatest sources of religious inspiration!

Hisashi Ota, the author of this remarkable book, was born in Japan and graduated from Nagoya University’s School of Science.

Holocaust Survivor Celebrates 90th Birthday By Writing Book

Atlanta, GA. Why would 90-year old Holocaust survivor Eva Friedlander decide to reveal the intimate details of her life on the eve of her birthday?

According to the author, the reasons are complex. “I wanted to ensure that my children and grandchildren never forget the tragic events that led to the persecution and death of millions of Jews during the Holocaust,” Friedlander says.

But re-living the horrors of Hungary under German occupation is only the beginning. It is “the rest of the story” that proves equally fascinating and draws the reader in.

“Nine Lives of a Marriage – A Curious Journey” with co-author Mickey Goodman debuted at the William Breman Heritage & Holocaust Museum to an overflow crowd of nearly 300. “It was the largest event of the year, and we sold more books than we ever have at a single event,” says Phyllis Lazarus, the Breman’s public relations manager.

One reason may be that Friedlander’s story spans three countries – Hungary, Italy and the U.S. where she thought she’d find the American Dream. But equally riveting are revelations about her husband’s 45-year affair with another woman.

The book was chosen in June for inclusion in the University of Southern California’s Shoah Foundation Institute’s Doheny Memorial Library.

About the Authors:

Hungarian Holocaust survivor Eva Friedlander escaped the Nazis by using her wit and resolve. After settling in America, she achieved her lifetime goal and became a successful art consultant and antique dealer, careers she still pursues. Eva studied in Rome at the Accademia di Belle Arte.

Co-author Mickey Goodman is an award-winning writer with more than 500 bylined articles in national and regional publications like Thomson-Reuters, People Magazine, Southern Living, Veranda, Women’s Wear Daily, Atlanta magazine, and blogs for The Huffington Post. Mickey has a degree in English and Journalism from Tulane University.

TIP SHEET:

Rabbi Peter S. Berg, The Temple, Atlanta, GA: “Nine Lives…” is one of the most important books of the day. This story is different from every other survivor story that has been written…Eva’s strength and persistence will serve as a role model for others. We will use this book in our congregation for book clubs and support groups.”

Irene Levine, PhD, Professor, NYU School of Psychiatry: “After reading the first chapter, I was hooked on finding out how the Friedlander’s marriage endured so long in the face of infidelity. Mickey Goodman is a wonderful storyteller and reporter whose words bring life to an intriguing story.”
