PACAW: Changing A Culture Of Poverty And Corruption To One Of Hope Through Education For Children In Africa

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(This press release may be reprinted in part or entirety)

While ‘Paying it Forward’ might be just a catch-phrase for some, not so for Dr. Sylvanus A. Ayeni. A retired neurosurgeon and former associate professor of neurosurgery at Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, NE, Dr. Ayeni was born in Nigeria and witnessed first-hand how poverty and corruption robs children in Africa of their chance at an education and fulfilling life. To help change this he founded the non-profit organization Pan Africa Children Advocacy Watch (PACAW) in 2007 and, together with a team of dedicated members of the local community, they are nurturing a new generation of African leaders through access to a different educational culture.

Please read the following press release and let me know if I may schedule an interview with Dr. Ayeni. We believe many in your audience would be interested in hearing of the work being done by this remarkable organization. If you would like to run this story, we would be happy to send you a .jpg of Dr. Ayeni. Thank you for your time.

PACAW: Changing A Culture Of Poverty And Corruption To One Of Hope Through Education For Children In Africa

Bethesda, MD ― The mission of Pan Africa Children Advocacy Watch (PACAW), is to nurture and develop a new generation of African leaders via access to a different educational culture at the primary and secondary school levels. In providing the infrastructure and staff for quality education for pupils in poor underserved communities Pan Africa Children Advocacy Watch promotes change.

“We can help develop better leaders when early education focuses on turning the gaze of the children away from avarice, extortion, selfishness, the vain, and obsession with accumulation of material wealth.” Dr. Sylvanus A. Ayeni is president of the nonprofit organization. “This type of education culture at the basic and secondary school levels would prepare young people for leadership that champions the development of their nations from within, and embraces living for a higher purpose.

“We’d like to expand our programs to several states in Nigeria,” says Dr. Ayeni. “In particular we would like a presence in the delta area and the northeastern part of the country where education has been brutally decimated by stone age ideologues.” Later, they plan to establish similar programs in other countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

The Biennial PACAW Leadership Academy is the second component of PACAW’s program. The Academy is for community leaders, the teachers and interested young graduates from the country’s tertiary educational institutions. The lessons and the values learned are then passed on to the children.

The third aspect of PACAW initiatives is the Community Economic Empowerment Program, intended to lift up the community economically. The goal is to transfer the PACAW programs to the community, the local government and perhaps, the state government within about ten years. This is designed to break the cycle of dependency which is so deeply entrenched in many nations of Sub-Saharan Africa.

PACAW is governed by members of an all-volunteer board in the USA and Africa. Members of the Organizing Committees of the programs at the grassroots level in Africa are all volunteers as well. Your assistance in helping us to get generous donations to this cause would be greatly appreciated. Currently, at least 95% of donations go directly to the village (community) in Africa for the projects to fulfill the mission of PACAW, Inc.

Dr. Ayeni is a retired neurosurgeon and former associate professor of neurosurgery at Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. Born in Nigeria, he has studied and taught around the world. For more information, please visit: www.pacaw.org.

Turning Personal Tragedy Into Inspiration For Others To Learn How To Find Healing And Peace

A lot of us believe that psychotherapists and psychiatrists have all the answers and probably never have to deal with family or relationship issues like the rest of us – right? Not necessarily so, says Joan Childs, a remarkable 77-year-old psychotherapist who’s been in private practice for nearly forty years; she knows first-hand the agony of losing a loved one to mental illness. But today, as both a psychotherapist and mother who lost a child, Joan has become an inspiration for others dealing with grief and loss; offering hope for the future. This story is covered in Joan’s new book, Why Did She Jump? and is also in pre-production for a movie by Zani Entertainment Media Group.

Author and keynote speaker, Joan makes a dynamic, inspiring guest who readily connects with any audience with her message of how to heal and find peace. Please read the following press release and let me know if I may schedule an interview or forward a review copy of her new book. If you would like to run this story we’d be happy to send you .jpgs of Joan and the book cover. Thank you.

Turning Personal Tragedy Into Inspiration For Others To Learn How To Find Healing And Peace

Fort Lauderdale, FL – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently reported the incidence of suicide is up by 24% since 1999.
A mother of five and grandmother to nine, married and divorced four times, and a clinical social worker in private practice for nearly forty years, Joan Childs thought she had experienced or seen it all. But nothing could have prepared her for the death of her beautiful daughter, Pam. A brilliant psychotherapist, Pam battled constantly with Bipolar Disorder until one fateful summer day in 1998 when her demons overwhelmed her, she plunged to her death from a 15th floor balcony. Even with their combined credentials and medical knowledge, Pam still could not be saved. She became the driving force behind Joan Childs’ latest book, Why Did She Jump? (HCI Books), and brings hope to anyone struggling with grief from the loss of a child or loved one to mental illness, that there is hope for better tomorrows.

Fierce and tender, Joan’s compelling storytelling gives us an insightful yet sensitive look at her daughter’s life dealing with Bipolar Disorder. Peeling back the layers of pain and despair, Joan takes readers through the dark days of grief and guilt she felt both as a mother and as a frustrated professional who doesn’t understand why more hasn’t been done about this disease. With brutal honesty, Joan recalls how the lives of her entire family became entwined with her daughter’s illness as they watched her sink deeper into a place where no one could reach her. It is a powerful story of courage, hope, acceptance, and finally, forgiveness. Now, Joan reflects on her daughter’s many accomplishments, in spite of her illness, and sees them as Pam’s legacy to the world.

In an earlier book, The Myth of the Maiden: On Being a Woman, the author looks at the evolution of women from helpless maidens to dragon-slayers. Both books are excellent resources for personal growth and development after life changes and loss. In spite of many personal losses, Joan ‘walks the talk;’ she lives life to its fullest and maintains a level of energy and passion at age 76 that would put a 40-year-old to shame! A strikingly beautiful woman and energetic and inspiring speaker, Joan ignites the passion in others to find their own path to courage, healing and hope after the heartbreak and struggle of losing a loved one/child to suicide or any other cause of death.

Joan’s television series, Solutions, was dedicated to the memory of her daughter Pamela, and offered information and resources for anyone suffering from mental and mood disorders. She provides lectures, workshops and seminars dedicated to her profession of mental health and women’s issues and is a spokesperson for bipolar disorder and suicide.

Dog Training The American Male: Take The Test To See Who Is A Member In Good Standing Of The Canine Club

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(This press release may be reprinted in part or entirety)

Most women would describe the perfect male as domesticated and well trained, but author L.A. Knight knows that most men are happiest relaxing on the couch, scratching their privates, and watching sports! I’d like to send you a copy of Dog Training the American Male ― his hilarious new book described as Sheryl Sandberg’s Lean In meets a funny Fifty Shades of Grey ― in consideration of an interview or review. Says Knight: “Men are dogs… and we like it that way. I say ‘bring it on’ but just go easy on the electric shock collar!”

This best-selling author makes a dynamic guest who will have your audience in stitches over his rollicking “tail” of a relationship counselor’s attempt to domesticate men through dog training techniques. Please read the following press release and watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNKbGI0Lsa0&feature=youtu.be, and let me know if I may schedule an interview with L.A. Knight or forward a review copy of the book. Thank you.

Dog Training The American Male: Take The Test To See Who Is A Member In Good Standing Of The Canine Club

Boca Raton, FL – L.A. Knight’s own marriage and the experiences of two different dog trainers he hired to train his German Shepherd, provided the unique inspiration for his laugh-out-loud book, Dog Training the American Male. Realizing his wife often treats him like a dumb animal (deservedly so, he admits, since most men are simple creatures who essentially want sex, food and to watch football), he jokes: “Give us what we want and domestication is possible. After all, who among us hasn’t performed for a treat, peed on a tree, dry-humped a woman’s leg, howled at the moon, or stuck his nose in a groin or two.”

At the heart of this hilarious tale is Dr. Nancy Beach, a relationship counselor who hosts a local radio show in South Florida called Love’s a Beach. Sadly, since this relationship guru can’t seem to make her own relationships work, her credibility and ratings are in the toilet. She is set up on a blind date with Jacob, a casualty of Lehman Brothers, who lost his job and swagger and now yearns to be a stand-up comedienne/ventriloquist. Since he’s already a walking thesaurus of phobias and now he’s dating a psych major― these two are either the perfect match or the relationship is a ticking time bomb.

Their siblings, for different reasons, don’t care ― they just want to be rid of them! Jacob’s brother (gynecologist Vinnie) and Nancy’s lesbian sister (Lana) encourage the young couple to move in together. When the honeymoon stage abruptly ends, Lana convinces Jacob to buy her sister a little white foo-foo dog ― a pet she enjoyed as an insecure child. Being a “typical man” Jacob doesn’t listen and instead goes to the dog pound, returning home with Sam – a 120-pound German Shepherd.

Needless to say, chaos ensues and Nancy flips out. But after hiring a dog trainer she has an epiphany … what if the dog trainer’s techniques can be used to housebreak Jacob? What follows is a wildly hilarious, social experiment that every couple and dog owner can identify with.

Kirkus Reviews states “Dog Training the American Male is funny in the best way: the humor propels the action rather than pausing it . . . prose flows like a jocular babbling brook. L.A. Knight is a naturally-gifted comic writer; what is more, she is a talented storyteller.” What is also funny is that like many readers, Kirkus assumed L.A. Knight is a woman. In fact, the author is NY Times best-selling author Steve Alten whose riveting hit series MEG was recently optioned by Warner Brothers for a movie to be directed by Jon Turtletaub and starring Jason Statham.

The Essence of Resilience: Stories of Triumph Over Trauma
By Tanya Lauer and Kathleen Parrish

Tucson, AZ – When trauma strikes in the lives of unsuspecting victims, it leaves wounds that run deep. If not properly tended to, these events can leave scars that affect the way a person relates to themselves and everything around them. “It is said that every scar tells a story,” Lauer and Parrish write in The Essence of Resilience: Stories of Triumph Over Trauma (HCI – ISBN: 9780757319419 October 2016 — $14.95), but often those stories are kept locked away in silence by the victims who are struck voiceless and alone in the dark shadow of their pasts. By keeping their stories buried within themselves, often trauma victims distort the reality of their trauma and devolve to self-blame, and very often cope with drugs, alcohol, and other unhealthy and dangerous behavior.

But everyone is capable of harnessing resilience – the part of ourselves that refuses to surrender or die. Everyone is capable of reclaiming themselves and taking control of the present by learning to cope with their pasts, and in The Essence of Resilience, fourteen trauma survivors demonstrate the miraculous healing power of storytelling to work through finding the “gift in their wound.” Stories include:

• A young girl bullied by her classmates, losing her definition of herself in their hurtful words.
• An adopted daughter, searching for a sense of belonging through substance abuse.
• A rape victim regaining her voice through therapy animals.
• A Marine with a history of child abuse learning the power of sharing and facing his past.

Tanya Lauer and Kathleen Parrish are professional counselors who specialize in those who have suffered a traumatic experience, which they define as “any event that violates your sense of safety and wellbeing, or shatters your integrity or sense of wholeness.” With a combined 40 years of experience helping trauma survivors cope, Lauer and Parrish share their tried-and-true arsenal of tools including Relationships, Trust, Travel, Compassion, Gratitude, Animals, Nature, Humor and Spirituality that helps victims reclaim their voice in this gripping and powerful book.

Join these survivors as they face their pasts head-on, sharing their deepest and darkest moments to open themselves up to the ability to heal. These stories, while they may be painful, are also published to be motivational to those who may be suffering silently on their own. These tributes to each individual’s past reveal an inspiring look into the miracle that is human resilience, and allows us to bear witness to these brave survivors in their triumph over trauma.

The Final Day Is Coming: National Security, Technology And Politics Fuse Into A Chilling Glimpse Of The Future

“Like its two predecessors in the Matherson series, this new novel entertainingly blends folksy and sophisticated, small-town nostalgia and sharp futurism…a thoughtfully rendered, richly detailed investigation into the ‘What if.'”—Kirkus Reviews, on The Final Day

Black Mountain, NC – Fans of John Matherson and his fierce brand of patriotism eagerly await a major release from Forge Books and New York Times bestselling author William R. Forstchen. The Final Day, third in the series, is scheduled for release in early January 2017.

Months before publication, Forstchen’s One Second After was cited on the floor of Congress as a book all Americans should read. Film rights to that novel have already been optioned by Warner Bros. The riveting story of our nation’s struggle to rebuild itself after an electromagnetic pulse plunges the country into darkness, starvation, and death was followed closely by the acclaimed One Year After, continuing the Matherson saga.

The Final Day picks up after John Matherson and his community defeat the designs of the alleged federal government. Now they have returned their attention to restoring the technologies and social order existing prior to the EMP attack. When the government announces that it is ceding large portions of the country to China and Mexico, General Bob Scales is sent to confront Matheson. The Constitution is no longer in effect, and what’s left of the U.S. Army has been deployed to suppress rebellion in the remaining states.

General Scales is John’s former commanding officer and closest friend from prewar days. Where do his loyalties fall? Might he be the crucial turning point in the quest for an America that is again united? When news breaks that members of the federal government knew an EMP attack was coming long before it hit, the government might get exactly what it fears: revolution.

William R. Forstchen is the New York Times bestselling author of One Second After. He holds a Ph.D. in history from Purdue University, with specializations in military history and the history of technology. Forstchen is currently a faculty fellow and professor of history at Montreat College, near Asheville, North Carolina.

Shadow Commander: Celebrate Veterans Day By Remembering The Covert Commander Responsible For The Largest POW Rescue Mission In History

Houston, TX – In Shadow Commander: The Epic Story of Donald D. Blackburn (Casemate Publishers), author Mike Guardia presents his readers with a memorable story of an underdog whose career was a testament to dogged determination and the will to stay alive.

On the evening of April 9, 1942, the fires on Bataan burned with a primitive fury, illuminating white flags of surrender against the dark sky. Outnumbered and outgunned, remnants of the American-Philippine army surrendered to the forces of the Rising Sun. Yet US Army Captain Donald D. Blackburn refused to lay down his arms. With future Special Forces legend Russell Volckmann, Blackburn escaped to the jungles of North Luzon, raising a private army of 22,000 men against the Japanese. His organization of native tribes into guerrilla fighters would lead to the destruction of the enemy’s naval base at Aparri.

But Blackburn’s remarkable accomplishments didn’t end with the victory in the Pacific. He played a key role in initiating Army Special Forces operations in Southeast Asia, became commander of the 77th Special Forces Group and later took command of the highly classified Studies and Observations Group (SOG), charged with performing secret missions. Blackburn also revitalized the Special Operations campaign in South Vietnam, conducting full-scale operations against the NVA and Viet Cong in Laos and Cambodia. Following his return to the US, Blackburn was the architect of the infamous Son Tay Prison Raid, the largest prisoner-of-war rescue mission—and, indeed, the largest Army Special Forces operation—of the Vietnam War.

During a period when US troops in Southeast Asia faced guerrilla armies on every side, America had a superb covert commander of its own. This book follows Blackburn through both his youthful days of desperate combat and his time as a commander, imparting his lessons to the new ranks of Army Special Forces.

An internationally-recognized author and military historian, Mike Guardia is also a veteran of the United States Army. He served six years on active duty as an Armor Officer. He is the author of the widely-acclaimed Hal Moore: A Soldier Once…and Always, the first-ever biography chronicling the life of Lieutenant General Harold G. Moore, whose leadership was popularized in the film We Were Soldiers starring Mel Gibson. As a lecturer, Mike Guardia has given presentations at the US Special Operations Command and the George Bush (41) Presidential Library. He holds a BA and MA in American History from the University of Houston and currently resides in Texas.
