The Money Noose: The Collapse Of MF Global Was No Accident

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New Canaan, CT – Jon Corzine and other leaders at MF Global walked into a disastrous situation with their eyes wide open. Now, respected Wall Street veteran Scott Skyrm offers a detailed account of what really happened, and why. The Money Noose: Jon Corzine and the Collapse of MF Global (Bricktower Press) is like a car wreck: it’s hard to look at, and at the same time, hard to look away.

“MF Global had the wrong business model and the wrong people, at precisely the wrong time….
We did not deal with our central problem of unprofitable core business operations and out-of-control overheads….” A senior member of the MF Fixed Income management team is just one of many sources insider Skyrm has uncovered to explain the self-inflicted collapse of MF Global.

The demise of MF Global is a chaotic story, one in which individual actions taken in and of themselves are relatively minor. But the sum of those individual actions equal the same end result. Skyrm goes further, exploring the question of how investors can protect themselves from this outcome in the future. The best answer, he says, is education. Concise and informed, The Money Noose is a must-read for anyone who takes investing seriously.

Scott E.D. Skyrm is a leading figure in the repo and securities finance markets today, and regularly quoted in The Wall Street Journal, The Financial Times, Bloomberg News Service, Reuters, Market News, and Dow Jones. He is highly regarded as a former salesman, trader, trading desk manager, and global business head in fixed-income, securities finance, and securities clearing and settlement.

He recently left Newedge, where he was their Global Head of Repo, Money Markets, and Fixed Income Clearing. He is now writing commentaries on the repo market, the short-end of the Treasury market, Federal Reserve policy and general Wall Street topics. He has worked on Wall Street for over 22 years and has taken billion dollar risks on the trading floor, managed a multi-billion dollar balance sheet, and consistently ran one of the most profitable trading groups at every firm where he worked. Prior to Newedge, he managed the repo desk at ING Barings, worked summers at Shearson Lehman/American Express and started his full-time career at The Bank of Tokyo.

Bridge To A Miracle And A Cry For Justice: Never Take Freedom For Granted Again

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ellaville, GA – It only takes a single call to turn the world upside down. In 2008, Jackie Carpenter’s life was shattered by a call telling her that her son had been arrested. After accidentally killing a man, her son had to fight for his life and freedom. Night after night, thieves were stealing copper from his worksite and on the advice of a deputy, her son armed himself and waited in the dark to hold them until police arrived. Unfortunately, as he held them at gunpoint, the gun accidentally fired. One of the men died. For the next ten months, Jackie’s near-perfect life suddenly became a terrifying journey to hell and back.

“Every day during the first six months of this ordeal I felt as though I was dying, physically, mentally, and emotionally,” she says. “I wrestled with the ‘what if’ factor. What if God doesn’t help us? What if God lets Jason go to jail even though he’s innocent? All those ‘what if’ questions weakened my faith. It was only when I stopped doubting and started trusting that I received ‘peace’ and now God is showing me the next piece of the puzzle.”

The Bridge: Between Cell Block A and a Miracle is Psalm 91 (Xulon Publishing) is Jackie’s account of the harrowing events following her son’s arrest. It is a story of fear, love, faith and hope, a chronicle of the support Jackie found in Psalm 91 and how she used this prayer of protection to hold her family together as her son fought for his life.

Although Jackie never considered a career as an author, she felt compelled to write a second book to follow the success of The Bridge.  Georgia Justice is a story of faith-building, she explains. “It’s a a how-to guide of what it takes to escape from the tightening grips of doubt and depression,” she says. “And then to begin the journey to renewed and strengthened faith, hope, and ultimate victory.”

A Cry for Justice (Triple Horse Studios) is the award-winning movie that was made from Jackie’s two books and tells the riveting true story of her fight to save her family. Please watch the exciting trailer at: acryforjusticemovie.com.

Jackie Carpenter has been a featured guest on television, radio, and in newspaper articles. For more information on this author and her remarkable story, visit her website at: www.bridgetoamiracle.com .

Angel Faces® : Unforgettable Stories And Beautiful Smiles

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

San Diego, CA – For young accident victims with facial burns, the pain never really stops. The stares, name-calling, teasing and cruelty of their peers create a sort of living hell for this special group of survivors. Lesia Cartelli knows this is true, because she lived through it herself. Her desire to heal from a serious burn injury over 50% of her face and body at the age of nine in a natural gas explosion encouraged her to create Angel Faces for girls who suffer similar disfiguring burns and other traumatic injuries. This year, the retreat is at Glen Ivy Resort in Corona, California on June 23-29, 2013.

During the week-long, intensive retreat, survivors hear first-hand from Cartelli about her injuries and the long road to recovery. The young women work closely with experts and meet others with similar struggles.  They learn to use new tools that will help them become more confident and able to embrace what the world hands them. Most important of all, they are empowered and given hope that they can create the life they desire.

“The retreat is only one small component,” Cartelli explains. “We see the fruits of our labor when the girls go back home. We receive several calls and emails from the parents and medical centers about how confident and content their daughter/patient is since she has returned — she joined a sports or academic team at school or now is going to prom, or interviewing for a first job, ending their social death.”

This year the girls are coming from Los Angeles, San Diego, Orlando, Tampa, Chicago, Atlanta, Nashville, Indianapolis, Portland, West Virginia, and even England.

Angel Faces® is a national nonprofit organization, headquartered in Encinitas, California, whose mission is to provide healing retreats and ongoing support for adolescent girls and young women with burn/trauma injuries to achieve their optimum potential and develop meaningful relationships for themselves, their families, and their communities.

The unique retreats and aftercare programs focus on the healing process within a holistic framework of mind, heart, and spirit. In addition to art therapy and private, corrective-cosmetic sessions, the program provides licensed therapists to help the girls through their loss and trauma issues, and provides the girls with strategies to handle staring and teasing. The goal of Angel Faces® is to offer a physical, spiritual, and emotional transformation so each girl walks away with a new confidence and a hopeful outlook toward the future with the skills to be excited about their life.

A Doctor’s Near-Death Experience Can Help Anyone Find A Second Chance At Life

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Boca Raton, FL – Dr. Emile Allen thought he had a near perfect life; he was an accomplished surgeon specializing in urologic oncology, with three successful practices and a wonderful life in Boca Raton, FL. That is, until the day he was operating to save a woman’s life and an accident nearly killed him.

Eaten by the Tiger: Surrendering to an Empowered Life (Inspire on Purpose Publishing) by Emile Allen, M.D., is the true story of what happened the day this brilliant surgeon was nearly electrocuted and the voice he heard while on the other side of his near-death experience. It clearly said, “I’m not ready for you yet. You have more work to do.” He had no way of knowing the long road back to physical and emotional recovery that was ahead. Years of pain, despair, and ultimately triumph awaited him on his transformative journey of self-discovery.

There were times Dr. Allen wanted to give up; he had gone from performing intricate surgical procedures to struggling with reading a book or just counting change. The accident not only changed his career and ability, it changed who he was. He had yet to realize the full significance of this incident and the impact it would have on the rest of his life.

He heard the voice again while undergoing extensive therapy for pain and infections during his recovery: “I’m not ready for you yet. You have more work to do.” But with all he cherished in life collapsing around him, what could the message mean? What could he contribute?  It was only after a clinical psychologist helped him identify his struggles as challenges rather than problems, he went from being a victim of his circumstances to being the victor of his life.

Years later, in 2007, working as a medical consultant and still struggling with his loss he decided to attend a 10-day spiritual retreat in Fiji. One afternoon as he meditated, he again heard the voice only this time something else happened; he saw his own body sitting on the ground while his spirit was floating above the room. What felt like a few minutes was, in reality, more than an hour and afterwards he experienced heightened sensory perceptions of the world around him. Explaining to the Dasaji that he felt the peace of another world, the spiritual leader explained why he had earlier told Emile, “You have to let the tiger eat you in order for you to live.”

“Emile, you have been in fear of the tiger for so many years. You climbed a tree to get away from the tiger, but you grabbed a branch and would not let go . . . today you finally let go of the branch and had faith that God would catch you,” he said.

Dr. Allen is a graduate of Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago. He completed his general surgery internship and urology residency at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. He is the former Chairman of Urology and Vice Chairman of Surgery at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, CA.

Eaten By The Tiger is a compelling collection of stories and insights acquired through personal experiences as surgeon, patient and son that can help anyone conquer their fear of the unknown and bring clarity to their life. As a highly respected inspirational speaker and author, Dr. Allen is sharing with the world a gift: a second chance at life – and touching more lives than he ever could have as a surgeon.
