You’re Tearing Us Apart; Twenty Ways We Wreck Our Relationships And Strategies To Repair Them

By Pat Love, Eva Berlander, and Kathleen McFadden
Illustrated by Andres Berlander

Houston, TX – Many broken relationships not only can be mended, but magnificent, say the authors of You’re Tearing Us Apart; Twenty Ways We Wreck Our Relationships and Strategies to Repair Them (HCI Books—$12.95), Pat Love, Eva Berlander, and Kathleen McFadden. Readers get a quick and straight to the point look at twenty ways a relationship can be ruined and most importantly how to fix them. Using more than fifty years of combined professional experience and scientific study, they’ve ensured tried-and-true strategies that work.

Experience proves one person can destroy a relationship not two. A broken trust can be caused by just one person pushing the other too far. It can happen either by invading privacy, over criticizing, or even a drunken argument. But the good news is that while one person can indeed break the relationship apart, one person can also be the one to fix it. All it takes is three steps:

Step 1: Recognize the part of your behavior that undermines intimacy
Step 2: Replace harmful behaviors with healthy acts of love
Step 3: Repeat steps 1 and 2!

Who has the time and inclination to wade through 200 pages to find a solution to an immediate relational problem? These three authors collaborated to write a narrative where each chapter is broken down into four easy to understand sections. The first illustrates what it’s like to live with someone practicing the relationship-threatening behavior. Then the psychology behind the behavior is explained followed by a concise description as to why the behavior is so threatening to the relationship. Each chapter ends with a variety of strategies to help any couple overcome their problems.

The snack-able chapters found in You’re Tearing Us Apart can be read one by one or completely devoured; either way, readers come out with an independent-study degree in relationship problem-solving. The book teaches the reader how to acknowledge, understand, and make a change to fix the problems in their relationships. The scenarios are easily relatable and give the reader a better understanding of how each problem affects the relationship. The many solutions given at the end of each chapter give readers plenty of options to adapt into their relationships.

In addition, each chapter is introduced with a piece of artwork that mirrors the problems of the chapter. The original artwork is gender neutral as well as the writing. This allows the text to be adapted by any type of couple looking to fix their relationship.

With the techniques found in this book, any couple can learn to move forward while creating happy, healthy relationships.

Katherine: A Woman of Vision: Learning From One Of History’s Most Gifted Spiritual Teachers

Dallas, TX – Diane Pomerance, Ph.D. met renowned spiritual teacher Katherine Hayward through a friend in Los Angeles when she was 28 and Hayward was 79. Their connection was immediate and Dr. Pomerance became her student and ultimately her protégé. The wisdom, spiritual vision and philosophy imparted by Hayward mesmerized Dr. Pomerance and she simply knew that Hayward’s life story was one that needed sharing. Katherine: A Woman of Vision (Polaire Publishing) is set to release in early Fall 2015.

Hayward was born in Wales in 1899 and lived in the UK against the backdrop of World War I and World War II. She had an out-of-body experience where she met “angelic beings” when she was merely 7 years old. The angels advised her to return to her physical body, that she had much work to do on earth. When she awakened she spoke with a full, mature adult voice, and knew the future. Quite amazingly, she made many predictions including the sinking of the Titanic. She also instinctively knew the truth about people and when they were lying, and the outcome of political elections.

Hayward was in further communication with Spirit Beings at the age of 20 for a 6-month period in which she witnessed paranormal activity and psychic phenomena. Even more important, she learned about the purposefulness and significance of Life and Death. Through her psychic abilities, she brought great comfort and solace to many people who had lost loved ones by speaking/communicating with the so-called “dead” and proving to bereaved that life continues after death.

Diane Pomerance, Ph.D. has dedicated her life to animal and environmental welfare and to spiritual research and exploration. Sharing the story of renowned spiritual teacher and mentor Katherine Hayward has been a labor of love. Additionally, she has authored eight books and is best known for her books about animal companionship, specifically the human-animal bond and grief recovery.

Stop The Fight! Offers Solutions For Issues That Ignite Emotions And Impede Communication

New York, NY – The first of its kind, this cleverly illustrated relationship guide helps couples literally see their way out of hurtful, repetitive arguments. Relationship conflict is complex and challenging to change. But in her work with couples, clinical psychologist Michelle Brody developed a way to make change a bit simpler. Using evocative drawings and diagrams that illustrate the hidden forces that drive the most familiar battles, Dr. Brody shows couples effective strategies for finding a way out in her new book, Stop the Fight! (The Experiment; $15.95; October 27, 2015; 978-1-61519-280-9).

Whether her clients were caught in the Partner Improvement Fight, the “You Don’t Care About Me” Fight, or the Difficult Relatives Fight, the pictures unlocked the destructive cycle. Her clients immediately “got it”—they could literally see with their own eyes what was blocking their bond, and together chart a course to recognize the triggers to fights … to end them. Stop the Fight! pairs more than 300 instantly graspable illustrations with Dr. Brody’s proven, pragmatic advice. It’s a one-of-a-kind relationship manual—concise, easy to use, and results oriented.

One of Dr. Brody’s colleagues aptly sums it up this way: “Over the years, Michelle has found that highlighting through diagrams and drawings some of the patterns in which clients get entrenched creates an “aha” moment for them and helps to lead them out of these destructive cycles…Stop the Fight! is all about the ordinary fights that happen between couples and how to stop them, but the helpful tools provided are applicable not just to couples, but to any collaborative dynamic – at home, work or anywhere in between.”

Tempting the Devil in the Name of God: Resetting Destiny’s Course to Conquer Addiction

Ocala, FL – More than 23.5 million Americans abuse drugs or alcohol, and the fact is that addiction destroys lives. Just ask Howard Beckman. Beckman was the son of a Philadelphia lawyer and was fortunate to have a wide array of opportunities at arm’s length. Sadly, he was an out-of-control teenager and his bad decisions led him down the path of drug addiction and international drug smuggling, which ultimately landed him in a Thai prison. With all hardships, there are lessons to be learned and Beckman is sharing his journey in his newly-released memoir, Tempting the Devil in the Name of God: The Heavy Hand of Fate.

Beckman’s travels were extensive, and with every stop around the globe there were setbacks. At times his story reads like a psychological thriller, and at others, as a mysterious journey into exotic lands and people. He bounced from one extreme to another from prison and corruption to finding spiritual peace. His journey is one of survival and anyone who has directly or indirectly experienced the horrors of drug addiction will find his memoir meaningful on a variety of levels.

“It’s my hope that by sharing how I survived my darkest days, it will somehow inspire someone who has lost their way, or even their will to go on,” says Beckman. “When you hit rock bottom, the only way to go is up. Sometimes you have to just let go of the past to find your own path in life.”

Howard Beckman is a writer, speaker and spiritual counselor. He is an expert in the ancient sciences of Yoga and Ayurveda.

Medicines That Kill: Separates Facts From Hype On The Dangers Of Medications And Offers Healthier Options

Carol Stream, IL – Medicines are a leading cause of death in North America, but we rarely hear about the deadly dangers both prescription and over-the-counter medications can cause. Cardiologist Dr. James L. Marcum wants to change all that with his new book Medicines That Kill: The Truth about the Hidden Epidemic (Tyndale House Publishers).

“l can still recall handing out my first prescription. The seriousness of the pen strokes hit me with full force,” Dr. Marcum said. “l was about to change someone’s chemistry. In doing so, I could help sustain him, or I could kill him. That responsibility weighed heavily on my mind.”

The number of prescription drugs given out has risen over the years. People want a quick fix for their symptoms rather than figuring out the problem. We accept prescriptions from our doctors without question and pop over-the-counter pills without a second thought about the risks that go along with using these medications. Not only can drugs have side-effects, but there could also be mistakes made in production, distribution, dispensing, and taking medications. Sometimes the drugs cause more harm than healing.

ln Medicines That Kill, Dr. Marcum shares stories of medications gone wrong and explains the dangers of using drugs without understanding how they might affect your body. He provides practical ways to come off medications (with the permission of your doctor) and seven ways to live a healthy lifestyle based on biblical principles found in the seven days of creation. Medicines That Kill encourages us to ask questions and to take control of our health by understanding what we put into our bodies.

About the Author:

Dr. James L. Marcum, board-certified cardiologist practicing with Chattanooga Heart Institute, has been named by USA Today as one of the most influential physicians in his field. He is the author of The Ultimate Prescription as well as an in-demand speaker for his role as the director of Heartwise Ministries. Currently, his radio program Heartwise airs on more than 400 radio stations across the nation. Dr. Marcum, speaker/director of Heartwise Ministries, hosts the health programs Heart of Health and BibleRx, which can be seen on secular and Christian television. He is married to Sonya and has two children, Kelli and Jake. He enjoys music and outdoor activities.

The Perfection Deception: Why Trying To Be Perfect Sets Us Up For Failure

Albuquerque, NM – A predictable reaction to Dr. Jane Bluestein’s new book The Perfection Deception would be the question “What’s wrong with perfectionism?” (HCI Books $14.95). The idea of perfectionism is confused by most to be a healthy drive for excellence. Dr. Bluestein, however, explains the dangers of reaching for total perfection. There is a difference between reaching for great achievement and the physical wound that develops, or the voice of the inner critic that screams “failure” even at the face of true effort and success.

Since beginning her research, Dr. Bluestein has uncovered a wide variety of places where perfectionism presents itself. There is a constant barrage of information about what a person should be, look like, and act that leads to corrosive effects on how people see their bodies, relationships, work, and sense of worth. Commercials, ads, television shows, movies, magazines are just some examples of where these deep-seated ideals of perfectionism can be found. No matter how many outlets use perfectionism as a sign of a good thing, striving for perfectionism can be dangerous. On the other hand striving to do your best is a healthy response to any goal in life. Because of the confusion this idea brings, Dr. Bluestein specifically states that perfectionism is not necessarily a positive. She wants to make it clear that perfectionism is akin to an addiction.

As a result of her work she hopes to help people recognize the various forms in which perfectionism can seep into a person’s ideals. From there she moves on to explaining how perfectionism shapes and defines our reality or identity. Dr. Bluestein tackles this issue head-on by defining the ways perfectionism affects a person’s wellbeing. In the last section of the book she works to heal those suffering from perfectionist ideals. She employs different solutions for fighting perfectionistic habits and, as a victim herself, Dr. Bluestein admits it takes time and hard work to make progress. But imperfect progress is at least an attainable goal. Some of the issues that stem from perfectionism are deep-seated and will come back to challenge you when it is least expected. Growth and change, she believes, are possible. Her life experiences have shown that with the right information and tools people can work towards a life where the need to have perfection does not run their lives. This book is in turn Dr. Bluestein’s way of delivering that information and tools to anyone in need.
